Horse Tack - Horse tack comprises of various items that are worn by a horse and includes such things as saddles, stirrups, bridles, halters, reins, bits and harnesses.
Saddles - Saddles are seats for the rider, fastened to the horse's back by means of a girth or cinch. There are different types of saddles for different styles of riding, English and Western saddles are the most common.
Saddle Bags - Saddle bags have been an essential part of horse tack in some form since the first saddles were invented. Traditionally made out of leather, they can now be bought in synthetic materials such as nylon and heavy canvas.
Horse Bits - Horse bits are placed in a horse's mouth and used for control or communication, bits offer varying degrees of control between rider and horse depending upon their design and on the skill of the rider.
Western Saddles - Western saddles are popular in the USA and are based on the saddles used for cattle ranching and rodeos. Western saddles are often said to be more comfortable to ride in than other types of saddle.
Horse Harness - A horse harness is a complicated set of devices and straps that attaches a horse to a cart, a sledge or any other load. There are as many kinds of harnesses as there are vehicles and loads to attach to a horse.
Stirrups - Stirrups are supports for a horse rider's feet and give a secure footing. Riders feet can sometimes get stuck in regular stirrups but designs like the Icelandic stirrup are shaped to allow the foot to slip out easily.
Horse Halters - Horse halters are headcollars with no bit used for controlling the horse. They are most often equipped for leading (particularly pack horses) or tethering a horse with a lead rope.
Roping Reins - Roping reins are lengths of rope attached to the outer ends of a bit and extend to a horse rider's or driver's hands. They are used by the rider or driver to communicate directional commands to the horse's head.
Bridle - Bridles are an arrangement of straps around the horse's head used for communicating with the animal. Bridles have traditionally contained a bit but recently bitless bridles have become popular and are considered more humane.
